RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada women’s tennis team defeated UC Davis 5-2 Friday, taking its home opener at Caughlin Club.
Nevada improved to 4-8 (0-1 WAC) with the win, while UC Davis fell to 5-10. The Wolf Pack began the match with two doubles wins to take an early 1-0 lead.
Michelle Okhremchuk and Emma Verberne won at the No. 1 position for the second straight match, defeating Ellie Edles and Megan Heneghan 8-1. After taking the early lead, the Pack didn’t look back, winning four of the six singles matches.
Okhremchuk and Verberne added singles wins at the first two positions, posting their seventh and sixth wins if the season, respectively. Sophie Stevens also continued to play well, winning her third straight singles match at No. 3. She rolled past Kelly Chui 6-4, 6-3.
Rymma Maslova added the final point for the Pack, winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Ellie Edles at the sixth position.
Nevada will play its second home match of the season Saturday, taking on Pacific at noon on the courts at Caughlin Club.
