PULLMAN, Wash. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team earned its first win of the season on Sunday by defeating the Montana Lady Grizzlies 6-1.
The Wolf Pack (1-3) earned the victory in the final match of their road trip by defeating the Lady Grizz (2-4). The Wolf Pack was only able to manage one doubles victory, but swept all six singles matches, led by Michelle Okhremchuk. On court one, she rolled past Heather Davidson 6-3, 6-1. Court two saw Emma Verberne pick up her third singles victory of the weekend when she cruised to victory in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 over Haley Driver.
"We started slow in doubles today, but singles played extremely well," head coach Guillaume Tonelli said. "It feels great to get in the win column and hopefully we can keep up our momentum."
Sheila Smiley was victorious on court three, as she also got past Ashley Mackey in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Sophie Stevens returned to the win column in singles as she recorded a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Laurence Pelchat. On court five, Juliette Legendre notched herself a win as she powered past Precious Gbadamosi 6-3, 6-4. The final singles victory came from Rymma Maslova, she she held on to pull out the three-set thriller 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
The lone doubles victory on the day came from the team of Stevens and Legendre, as together they got past the pair of Mackey and Gbadamosi 8-3.
The Wolf Pack returns to action on Feb. 28 when it travels to Los Angeles to take on Loyola Marymount at 1:30 P.M.
