FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team won its third match in a row on Saturday by defeating Cal State Fullerton by a score 5-2.
The Wolf Pack (3-1, 1-0 MW) were able to win both matches on this road trip after splitting its opening matches in Hawaii two weeks ago. Nevada grabbed two doubles wins for the early point and closed out the day 4-for-6 in singles action to secure the match. The girls are earning their success, according to head coach Guillaume Tonelli.
"The girls are really working hard out there, both in practices and in matches," he said. "It makes me proud to see them have this success so far, but there's still a long way to go."
Senior Michelle Okhremchuk picked up a win on court No. 1 after she dropped Morgan McIntosh in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The win moves her into second place for career singles wins at Nevada by herself at 76, only 7 behind Tracy King (83). Monika Magusiak remained unbeaten in singles this season, as she moves to 4-0 after she rolled past Rebekkah Ermac 6-4, 6-1. Sheila Morales Hidalgo added another win to her freshman campaign, as she was victorious against Alexis Valenzuela 6-3, 0-6, 10-6. Junior Sheila Smiley notched the last singles win for Nevada, taking down Kalika Slevcove 2-6, 6-1, 10-8.
Okhremchuk and Morales Hidalgo were able to snag the first doubles win by blanking McIntosh and Camille De Leon 6-0. Smiley and Juliette Legendre grabbed the other victory, blazing past Ermac and Jessica Pepa 6-1.
The Wolf Pack will be in action again on Feb. 7 when it travels to face UC Davis.
