Nevada Closes Beach Tennis Winter Invite with Strong Singles Play

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Nevada women’s tennis team won five singles matches on the final day of the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational Sunday.
Nevada took on the Lions of Loyola Marymount in singles play on the final day of the round-robin event. In doubles action, Nevada met host and No. 38 Long Beach State.
Winning her third straight match to open the 2012 Spring, Michelle Okhremchuk defeated Miya Jin of Loyola Marymount 6-3, 6-2. Okhremchuk was joined in the win column by Emma Verberne, Juliette Legendre, Sophie Stevens and Iva Lepcevska.
Verberne won 6-1, 6-1 over Ashley Anderson, winning her second singles match of the 2012 season. Stevens and Legendre each won in come-from-behind fashion. Stevens defeated Tory Parravi 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). Legendre won 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 10-5 over Elisaveta Pironkova.
Lepcevska dispatched Madison Wesseln in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-1. In doubles play, the Wolf Pack fell in each of the three matches played against Long Beach State.
Nevada will begin dual matches this season with a contest against Utah on February 10 in Salt Lake City.
