LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Nevada women’s tennis team had a strong day two as it earned six victories at the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational on Saturday.
In singles competition, the Wolf pack took on New Mexico and earned four victories, led by Michelle Okhremchuk. She defeated Michaela Oldani in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Emma Verberne added her own victory, as she cruised to a victory over Maria Sablina 6-1, 6-3. Sheila Smiley posted victory number three for the Pack, as she was victorious in her match against Nikolina Grbac 6-1, 6-4. The final singles victory came from Rymma Maslova, as she defeated Laura Richardson 6-3, 6-4.
Colorado was the Pack’s opponent in doubles action, and the Pack came away with two victories in three matches. The team of Okhremchuk and Verberne earned a victory, as they defeated Julyette Steur and Winde Janssens by a margin of 8-4. The second victory came from the team of Pack newcomer Monika Magusiak and Maslova. Together they were victorious against the team of Mattison Sperry and Mazy Watrous 8-4.
The Winter Beach Tennis Invitational will conclude on Sunday as the Wolf Pack faces Long Beach State in doubles action and Colorado in singles competition.
