RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada swimming and diving team will open its home schedule this Saturday, meeting Mountain West foe New Mexico at Lombardi Pool at 10 a.m.
The Wolf Pack has won two of its three dual meets this season, earning both wins on October 27 in a double-dual with Fresno State and Fresno Pacific. Swimming at the Fresno State Aquatics Center in Fresno, Nevada bested Fresno State 154-141 and defeated Fresno Pacific 154-80.
The Nevada divers played an integral role in the victories, sweeping the top three spots in the one-meter and three-meter disciplines. Combined with six individual-event wins and a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the points earned on the diving board led the Pack to a sweep of the day overall.
Mengjiao “Jojo” Mi and Grace Huang did some individual sweeping of their own that week, earning Mountain West Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively.
Mi won five events in two days, winning twice against Pacific a day prior to Nevada’s dual with Fresno State and Fresno Pacific and adding three more at the Fresno State Aquatics Center. She also anchored the Pack’s winning 400-free team on the 27th.
Huang posted NCAA zone-qualifying scores in both springboard events at the Wolf Pack's double-dual meet. She placed second on the 1-meter springboard after tallying 289.50 points and captured a first-place finish on the 3-meter board with a mark of 321.00.
New Mexico sports a 3-2 record in dual competition this season, defeating Colorado State 194-139 and New Mexico State 195-138, while falling to San Diego State 168-149 its last time out. Each result came at a quad-meet hosted by UNM from November 2-3.
