RENO, Nev. - After not competing for over a month the University of Nevada swimming & diving team travels to Santa Barbara, Calif. to take on the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Wolf Pack last competed on Nov. 22 at the New Mexico quadrangular going 2-1.
The Pack enters Friday's competition with a 4-2 record in dual action. There will be no diving on Friday as Nevada's divers are currently in China on a training trip.
"We've had a very productive training phase since our last meet and will continue improving our precision over the next few weeks," second-year head coach Abby Steketee said. "The UC-Santa Barbara meet is actually part of a training trip we're doing in Ventura, Calif.; that means that our training actually intensifies heading into the meet. UC-Santa Barbara has seasoned swimmers and depth. Plus, this is our first outdoor meet of the season. All in all, the meet is a great opportunity for us to test our perseverance."
Sophomore Yawen Li currently ranks in the top 10 in four events in the Mountain West. Li's 200-yard breaststroke time of 2:15.46 ranks third while her 100-yard breaststroke time of 1:04.38 is eighth. She has the fourth fastest time in the 400-yard IM of 4:20.43 and the ninth best time in the 200-yard IM of 2:04.09.
