RENO, Nev. – In a dual that went down the final race the University of Nevada swimming & diving team was edged by UC Davis 151-149 at Lomardi Pool today. The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 2-1 on the season.
Trailing the Aggies 147-136 with just the 800-yard freestyle relay remaining the Pack would need to take the top two spots to win the dual. Nevada’s A team of Riley Hilbrandt, Sita Kusserow, Andrea Kostecki and Teresa Baerens won in a time of 7:36.98 but the B team was third as UCD held on for the victory.
Sophomore Yawen Li won all three of the individual events in which she competed and was on the Pack’s second place 200-yard medley relay. Li won the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events and led a Pack sweep of the top three spots in the 400-yard IM. Sophie Cieplucha was second in the 400-yard IM and Nikki Longland third.
Senior diver Grace Huang was a double winner placing first in the 1-meter event with a score of 338.7 and took the 3-meter scoring 367.2. Nevada dominated the diving sweeping the top three spots in both events. Krysta Palmer was second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter. Senior Stephanie Hansen placed second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter.
The Pack 200-yard medley relay team of Luiza Vieira, Li, Kusserow and Kostecki started the meet with a second place finish.
Kusserow had two second place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly. Vieira added two second place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. Baerens was second in the 50-yard freestyle.
Nevada will have next week off before traveling to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete against New Mexico, Wyoming and Grand Canyon University on Nov. 22-23.
