RENO, Nev. -

The University of Nevada swimming and diving team (1-1) defeated the University of Pacific (1-1) in its home opener at Lombardi Pool on Friday night.  Nevada downed Pacific 137-100, avenging a 50-point loss to the Tigers from last season.

Nevada was the only team to have divers competing, but even without those 32 points the Wolf Pack still pulled out a tight, four-point win.  With the diving points excluded from the team totals, the score was tied at 94 going into the final event of the night, the 400-yard freestyle relay.  With Nevada taking first and fourth in the event, the Pack took the win.

The Wolf Pack's winning relay team of Andrea Kostechki, Chelsey Larsen, Michelle Forman and Alysse Ploussard won the event with a time of 3:36.59, just eight tenths of a second over Pacific.

"I couldn't be more proud of this team tonight," head coach Mike Richmond said.  "This was a fantastic fight.  Before the meet we met and talked about starting a streak.  We wanted to get something going right now that defined our success for the future.  Every single member of this team stood up tonight and came alive.  This was this best meet we've had in three years."

The Wolf Pack had 20 top-three finishes on the night, winning eight events.  Mengjiao Mi led the Pack with three wins.  Mi won the first individual event of the night, the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:54.18.  She also came back to win the very next event, the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.74.  She also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:08.47.

Chavisa Thaveesupsoonthorn won two events for the Pack on the night.  Thaveesupsoonthorn won both the 400-yard individual medley (4:35.23) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.17).Grace Huang won both of the 1- and 3-meter diving events with a score of 276.45.  Gabby Guieb won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.46 while placing second in the 400-yard individual medley.

Nevada will have a quick turnaround having to face Fresno State at 11 a.m. at Lombardi on Saturday, Oct. 29.
