RENO, Nev. - The silver team dominated the blue squad in the Nevada swimming and diving intrasquad meet today at Lombardi Pool by a score of 119-77. The Wolf Pack opens the regular season on Oct. 25 at 2:30 p.m. when Pacific comes to Reno.
The silver team won 10 of the 11 events in the meet which included both relays. The silver 200-yard medley relay team of Luiza Vieira, Yawen Li, Sita Kusserow and Andrea Kostecki combined to put their team on top to stay.
Senior diver Grace Huang won the first individual event of the day taking first in the 1-meter event. Another senior diver, Stephanie Hansen, the 2013 Mountain West Diver of the Year placed second for the blue squad.
The silver team won the next six events with freshman Riley Hilbrandt getting it started in the 200-yard freestyle and she also won the 200-yard breaststroke, the sixth event in the stretch.
Vieira was also a double winner on the day placing first in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. Yawen was the third double winner for the silver team winning the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM. Kusserow was the fifth individual on the silver squad to place first winning the 200-yard butterfly.
Sophomore Erin Fuss won the 100-yard butterfly for the blue squad to keep the silver team from sweeping all 11 events.
The same four silver swimmers that won the 200-yard medley relay combined to win the final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle.
