Nevada falls in return to pool at UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -  In its first competition in over one month the University of Nevada swimming & diving team lost at UC Santa Barbara 119-82 today.  Only the swimmers competed as the divers are on a training trip to China.  With the loss the Wolf Pack dropped to 4-3 in dual competition and return to action on Jan. 24 at Cal State East Bay.

Sophomore Yawen Li won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.72 and placed second in the 200-yard IM swimming 2:05.14.  Freshman Sita Kusserow won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.49.  Another Pack freshman, Teresa Baerens swam 51.75 to win the 100-yard freestyle.  Carson City, Nev. Junior Michelle Forman was the fourth swimmer to win an event placing first in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:06.31.

Luiza Vieira and Kaelie Reviglio were second and third respectively in the 200-yard backstroke.  Erin Fuss swam to a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly.  Three Pack swimmers earned third place finishes; Riley Hilbrandt in the 1000-yard freestyle, Raquel Teran-Sanchez in the 200-yard breaststroke and Sophie Cieplucha the 200-yard breaststroke.

The 400-yard medley relay comprised of Vieira, Li, Kusserow and Baerens placed second with a time of 3:49.31.  Kusserow, Vieira, Fuss and Baerens combined to swim 1:37.43 in the 200-yard freestyle relay to finish second.
