Wolf Pack Softball Announces 2012 Schedule
Nov. 10, 2011 RENO, Nev. – The 2012 Nevada softball schedule will feature 20 games on the diamond at Hixson Park, as well as a host of stellar Western Athletic Conference and non-conference opponents, head coach Matt Meuchel announced Thursday. “Our home WAC slate alone features competition against 2011 NCAA Tournament participants Fresno State and BYU along with 2010 Women's College World Series participant Hawai’i,” Meuchel said. “It should be an exciting year of Wolf Pack Softball." Nevada will open the season with two games against former-WAC foe Boise State in Davis, Calif., February 10-11 at the Aggie Stampede. The Wolf Pack will conclude the tournament in Davis by taking on the Aggies twice, as well Loyola Marymount once. Making its second tournament trip the following week, the Pack will travel to Palo Alto to compete in the Stanford Nike Invitational. On tap that week are the Pacific Tigers, Bradley Braves and host Cardinal, as well as bracket play. “Our non-conference slate will provide another great challenge and has a great mix of teams to prepare us for our 2012 WAC slate,” Meuchel said. Later in the non-conference season, the Pack will go to Santa Barbara for the Gaucho Classic, where it will take on in-state rival UNLV on Feb. 24. The Pack defeated UNLV 9-6 last February on campus in Las Vegas. The San Diego classic, hosted by the Toreros from March 2-4, will wrap up the road portion of Nevada’s tournament schedule. The Pack will meet a collection of California schools, including host San Diego, Long Beach State, San Diego State, Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly. A two-game set with Sacramento State will mark the opening of the home slate for the Pack, as the Hornets come over the hill for two games on March seventh. That weekend Nevada will welcome San Diego and Wisconsin to Hixson for the 2012 Wolf Pack Softball Classic from March 9-11.
Nevada will begin WAC play with a three-game set against Fresno State on March 23-24, and will also welcome San Jose State, Hawai’i and BYU to Hixson Park in 2012. The Rainbow Wahine will travel to Reno from April 20-21. “The WAC is going to be loaded with great softball programs and we are excited to compete for a conference championship in our final season in the WAC,” Meuchel said. The season-ending WAC Tournament will take place in Las Cruces, N.M., from May 9-12. |
