Reno, Nev. -- Over the course of the next three months, the University of Nevada softball team will play nine exhibition games, with five of them coming at Hixson Park. Admission to each game will be free and will give Pack softball fans their first look at the 2014 group.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to play a full fall slate and look forward to the challenge of playing eight games against four-year schools," coach Matt Meuchel said. "These fall games are always a great opportunity to see our freshmen compete and see how our ball club is shaping up headed into the season."
Nevada will begin its home fall slate on September 29 at noon, with the first of two games against Simpson University on that Sunday.
Simpson is a NAIA school from Redding, Calif. The Red Hawks compiled a 34-26 record last season and competed in the National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship, falling in the second round of the 10-team tournament. In NAIA postseason play, Simpson was eliminated in the Northwest Regional.
The popular Nevada alumni game will take place on October 26 at noon, and will also be played at Hixson Park.
The Pack will conclude its home fall schedule with a doubleheader against William Jessup University, with the first game scheduled for noon on November 2.
William Jessup is also an NAIA school, finishing fourth in the California Pacific Conference and 28-16 overall last season.
Nevada will also travel for four games, playing in the Pacific Fall Tournament October 5-6 in Stockton, Calif. Nevada's opponents for those games have yet to be announced.
