RENO, Nev. The University of Nevada softball team will host a pair of youth camps next month, head coach Matt Meuchel announced today.
These camps offer children the opportunity to learn, practice and improve on their softball skills while receiving instruction from the entire Wolf Pack coaching staff as well as members of Nevada’s 2008 and 2009 WAC Championship teams.
“At our camps participants can expect to get top-notch instruction from Wolf Pack coaching staff and players,” said Meuchel, who led the Pack to a WAC title in 2009 in his first year as head coach. “We put great emphasis on teaching the same fundamental and advanced skills with our campers that we emphasize with our players in order to win WAC Championships.”
Each camper will have a chance to work on hitting, fielding, throwing, base-running, sliding and position play. Various competitions and games will be held and campers will have the opportunity to interact on a one-on-one basis with Coach Meuchel and his staff, which includes former collegiate stars Melanie Meuchel and Lisa Dodd.
“We spend a lot of time at camp on team concepts and will spend a good portion of the camp playing and learning in game-like situations,” Meuchel said. “Our camps are a great opportunity for our staff and players to get to interact and connect with the local softball community and for young players to get to know our program.”
Camps run from Jun 15-18 and will be held at Hixson Park, the home of the Wolf Pack softball team. The morning portion of the camp is for girls entering grades 2-8 and will run from 8 a.m. until noon each day. The afternoon session runs from 1-5 p.m. and is for girls entering grades 9-12. Cost of the camp is $135 per camper and includes a t-shirt. Each camp is limited to 70 campers.
