Nevada is 39-17 on the season entering this week’s NCAA Regional in Palo Alto, Calif., hosted by Stanford ... This is the second straight season that Nevada has earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament and this is the Wolf Pack’s third NCAA appearance in the last four years (and third in history of the program) ... The Wolf Pack won its second straight Western Athletic Conference regular season title (co-champs with Fresno State) and reached the championship game of the WAC Tournament last year in Fresno, Calif. ... The Pack was 17-1 at home at Hixson Park this season and is 38-5 all-time at Hixson Park ... The Wolf Pack is receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 and the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 ... The Pack has been ranked or receiving votes each week of the 2009 season ... Senior outfielder Brittany Puzey has reached base safely in 35 straight games and in 54 of Nevada’s 56 games this season ... Puzey recorded a school-record 20-game hitting streak earlier this season ... Senior second baseman Kym Sialgyi is tied for the national lead in triples with eight ... Junior pitcher Katie Holverson, the 2009 WAC Pitcher of the Year, is 27-9 and set the school’s single-season record for victories ... Nevada led the WAC with six overall selections on the 2009 All-WAC teams, including four on the All-WAC first team.
ABOUT THIS WEEK
Nevada opens play in the 2009 NCAA Tournament against Cal Poly in the first game of the Palo Alto (Calif.) Regional on Friday at 3 p.m. Nevada is the No. 3 seed in the regional and the Mustangs are the second seed. Regional host Stanford is the top seed in the regional and the tournament overall No. 8 seed. The Cardinal will play fourth-seeded Portland State in the other first-round matchup (6 p.m.) on Friday. The tournament is a double-elimination format with the regional champion advancing to the Super Regional round.
Ticket prices range from $8 (single-game) to $40 (all-session) with discounts available for children, students and seniors. Tickets are available by calling 1-800-Stanford; visiting www.gostanford.com or at the ticket box at Smith Family Stadium.
All of Nevada’s games will be broadcast live in Northern Nevada on ESPN Radio 630 AM.
