Wolf Pack Softball Travels To La. Tech
Week 12 of the 2010 softball season takes the Nevada softball team on its longest trip of the year as the Wolf Pack travels to Ruston, La., to face the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters in a three-game series … The Wolf Pack is 16-23 overall and 3-11 in WAC play … Louisiana Tech enters the series at 22-17 and 7-8 in league play … This is the second-to-last weekend of WAC play and Nevada needs to make up ground to qualify for the WAC Tournament … The teams will play a single game on Friday before a doubleheader on Saturday at the Lady Techster Softball Complex ... If the regular season ended today, Nevada would be on the outside looking in for the six-team WAC Tournament, scheduled for May 12-15 in Las Cruces, N.M. ... The Wolf Pack was picked to finish second in this year’s Western Athletic Conference race ... Nevada had three players on the Preseason All-WAC first team in Katie Holverson, Sam Bias and Noelle Micka ... Holverson, last year’s WAC Pitcher of the Year, is on the initial watch list for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award ... The Wolf Pack returns five position-player starters and both pitchers from last year ... This is the second season under head coach Matt Meuchel ... Last year, the Wolf Pack went 40-19 in 2009 and won the WAC Championship with a 15-5 mark ... Nevada concluded the 2009 season at the NCAA Regional in Palo Alto, Calif.

Nevada and Louisiana Tech have meet 28 times in history with the Wolf Pack holding a 20-8 advantage in the all-time series … This is the first time Nevada has traveled to Ruston since 2007 … Last year, Nevada won the series 3-2 over Tech, winning two of three in the regular season in Reno and then splitting at the WAC Tournament with the victory coming in an elimination game.
