No. 23 Nevada Travels To Boise State

Nevada is 26-12 on the season after dropping a game Wednesday at UC Davis ... The Wolf Pack is ranked No. 23 in the Softball Top 25 this week ... The Wolf Pack is receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 ... Entering play this week, Nevada leads the Western Athletic Conference standings with a 6-2 mark in league play, a half-game ahead of second-place Fresno State ... These games are part of a seven-game road trip for Nevada, which won’t play at home again until April 24 ... The Pack is ranked in the top 40 nationally in seven offensive categories, including ninth in batting average (.323) ... Individually, Nevada players are in the top 50 in seven statistical categories ... The Wolf Pack returned 13 letterwinners from last year, including seven starting position players and one pitcher ... Of the returners, seven earned first- or second-team All-WAC honors in 2008 ... Topping the list of returnees is sophomore catcher Noelle Micka, a second-team NFCA All-American in 2008; junior pitcher Katie Holverson, a second-team NFCA All-West Region honoree in 2008; and senior outfielder Brittany Puzey, an honorable mention NFCA All-West Region selection in 2007 ... Nevada went 44-18 overall in 2008 and captured its first WAC regular season crown with a 16-2 record ... The Wolf Pack advanced to the NCAA Regionals, where it fell in the title game at UCLA ... Nevada is led by first-year coach Matt Meuchel, who was an assistant here for four years (2003-06) before spending two years at Oklahoma State ... His staff includes fourth-year assistant Melanie Meuchel and first-year assistant coach Lisa Dodd.

This series features the conference leading Wolf Pack and the surprise team of the league this year in Boise State. The Broncos are playing their inaugural season and sport a winning overall record (18-15) and a .500 mark in league play thus far.
This series also marks another first -- the first local radio broadcasts for Wolf Pack softball. Friday’s game will be carried live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM. Saturday’s doubleheader will be tape delayed on and will air beginning at 6 p.m. Next week’s series against Fresno State will be carried on radio, as will all postseason games for the Pack, including the WAC Tournament games.

The Broncos enter this week with a 18-15 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the WAC. They have not played since splitting a doubleheader with San Jose State on April 4.
Boise State has a team batting average of .278, led by Kathy Cox (.381) and Christin Capobianco (.337). Those two players have been the power suppliers as well as Cox has six home runs and 26 RBI while Capobianco leads the team with eight bombs and 26 RBI. Laeha Hill (.318) is the only other Bronco batting above .300.
In the circle, Aubray Zell and Allie Crump have been the primary starters for Boise State this season. Zell leads the team with a 10-4 record and a 3.35 ERA. Crump is the strikeout pitcher of the staff with a team-high 76 on the year.
Boise State is coached by Erin Thorpe, who is in her first year at the school. Her assistants are Justin Kloczko and Reno native Brianne McGowan.
