Pack Takes 5-1 Game From Louisiana Tech
April 9, 2005
RUSTON, La. - Cindy Elkins was 4-4 with a home run, a solo shot in the first, and Jordan McPherson pitched a six-hit, one-run complete game as the Pack (15-21, 4-2 WAC) took two of three from Louisiana Tech here with a 5-1 decision Saturday afternoon.
Nevada scored twice in the first and added an insurance run in the second and two more in the sixth. Louisiana Tech (18-29, 2-4 WAC) scored its lone run in the fourth.
The Pack used the long ball with Elkins, Lindsey Hall and Kristin Stith all hitting solo shots. Stith was 2-3 with two RBI. McPherson (7-6) pitched seven innings in allowing six hits and one run (earned), for her seventh complete game.
Nevada scored in the first on Elkins' home run and then Amanda Wise, who had walked, advanced to second on a Jiliane Hartfiel single and moved to third on a wild pitch. Wise then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brittany Lorenzen for what would be the game-winning run.
The Pack split the double-header Friday, winning 3-0 and then losing 4-3 in eight innings.
Nevada returns home to host Utah Valley State this Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17. Saturday's double-header begins at noon while the Sunday single game gets underway at 10 a.m. Admission is free to Nevada softball at Idlewild Park.
