Nevada Completes Sweep of Weber State





RENO, Nev. – The Nevada softball team won its fourth straight game by completing a three-game sweep of Weber State on Sunday at Hixson Park.
Nevada pounded out 14 hits en route to the 10-5 victory over the Wildcats on Sunday. With the win, Nevada improved its record to 10-11 on the year.
The Wolf Pack wasted no time in jumping out against the Wildcats. Nevada scored three runs in the first, one on an RBI single by Lauren Lastrapes and two more on an RBI single by Megan Fincher.
In the second, Sam Bias blasted a double down the line in left to score Kortnee Wiley all the way from first base as Nevada took a 4-0 lead.
Nevada sent 10 batters to the plate in the third and scored five runs in the game. Lastrapes and Wiley each had an RBI double and Britton Murdock drove in a run with a single. The big blow of the inning was a two-run double from Noelle Micka. That extended Micka’s  hitting streak to 13 straight games, which is tied for the fifth-longest in school history. Micka’s career-long hitting streak is 17 games, which is second-longest in school history.
Katie Holverson was cruising in the circle until the fifth as Weber State scored four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to cut Nevada’s lead to 9-5. Two of the runs were unearned off Holverson.
Nevada got one run back in the sixth on a ground ball by Kortnee Wiley that scored Lastrapes and pushed the lead to 10-5.
Holverson closed the door from there as she earned her second win of the weekend and improved to 4-6 on the year.
Nevada will return to action on Friday when it begins play in the Capital Classic hosted by Sacramento State. The Wolf Pack will play Colorado State and Iona twice each in the weekend tournament.
