Softball's Mallary Darby named Nevada Student-Athlete of the Week

Softball's Mallary Darby has been named the Nevada Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 1-7.

Darby went 2-1 with a 2.85 ERA and threw her second career no-hitter for Nevada. Darby made three starts and tossed a pair of complete games for the week. She struck out 11 and gave up just eight earned runs in 19.2 innings. Opponents hit just .237 on the week against her. The only loss in the week came in a narrow 3-2 decision to DePaul. On Sunday against Boston College, Darby tossed a no-hitter in a 9-0 win over the Eagles. She struck out two and walked just one in the game – the only blemish keeping it from a perfect game. It was Darby’s second career no-no (first was against Boise State in 2009) and the fourth no-hitter in Nevada history.

The Nevada Student-Athlete of the Week is presented by Wells Fargo. Each Monday a new athlete will be chosen.
