Softball Downs Bowling Green, 6-4, Saturday Night

FULLERTON, Calif. - Nevada used the long ball - notching three home runs - as they improved to 7-9 on the season and 2-1 at the Worth Invitational here Saturday night with a 6-4 win over Bowling Green.
Kristin Stith, Jiliane Hartfiel and Candice Rainwater all hit home runs and Rainwater went six-and-third innings in the circle, allowing four runs, three of them earned, to get her fourth win of the year. Freshman pitcher Jordan McPherson picked up her second save with two-thirds of an inning pitched in giving up just one hit and no runs.
Rainwater was 2-3 with two RBI and Stith had three RBI with her three-run shot in the fifth to break a 2-2 tie.
Bowling Green scored two in in the third to take a 2-0 lead but Nevada tied it with two in the fourth on a Rainwater home run, scoring Hartfiel, who had walked. The Pack had a big fifth inning by scoring four runs, three of them on Stith's home run. Bowling Green came back with two runs in the top of the seventh on a Steigerwald RBI single and then on a Rainwater wild pitch. But McPherson was able to come in shut them down to secure the win in notching her second save of the year.
Bowling Green out hit Nevada, 9-5, but left seven runners stranded while Nevada left five runners on base.
Nevada concludes the tournament with a game against No. 22 Oregon State Sunday morning. The Pack then heads to Hawaii next week for a tournament, March 10-11, against Virginia, Campbell, Notre Dame and Hawaii and then will play the Rainbow Wahine March 14-15 in the opening WAC games in Honolulu.
