Wolf Pack Softball Opens Home Slate





RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada softball team will open up the 2011 home schedule on Friday with the first day of the Wolf Pack Classic at Hixson Park.

Nevada (3-12) will play host to Boston College and DePaul in the three-day, round-robin tournament.

Tickets for individual days will be $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over.  A tournament pass, which will offer fans one price for the entire weekend, can also be purchased for $15, or $10 for children and seniors.

In honor of opening day 2011 at Hixson Park, Friday will be $1 hotdog day.  In addition, fans should keep an eye on the Nevada Wolf Pack Facebook page for a special code that will give them discounted entry into Sunday’s games.

Live stats for every tournament game are available at nevadawolfpack.com and live video for each games is also available.

ABOUT THIS WEEK
Nevada enters week four of the 2011 campaign with the first of three straight weekends at home at Hixson Park ... The Wolf Pack will welcome in DePaul and Boston College for the Wolf Pack Classic ... The round-robin tournament will feature seven games over three days at Hixson Park ... Nevada will play five games in the tournament, squaring off against Boston College and DePaul on Friday and Saturday with a single game against Boston College on Sunday ... Boston College and DePaul will play each other on Friday and Saturday ... DePaul is receiving votes in both national Top 25 polls ... After the weekend, Nevada will travel to UC Davis on Tuesday for a doubleheader -- games that were postponed from March 2 ... ABOUT NEVADA
Nevada is picked to finish sixth in the seven-team Western Athletic Conference race  ... No Wolf Pack player was picked to the preseason All-WAC team ... Nevada returned nine players from last year’s team that went 17-28 overall and 4-16 (seventh) in the Western Athletic Conference ... The nine returners include six players who were starters in 2010 in Mallary Darby, Megan Fincher, Lauren Lastrapes, Britton Murdock, Danielle Patrick and Kortnee Wiley ... Nevada has more newcomers (11) than returnering players in 2011 ... The Wolf Pack has two players on its roster who will redshirt this year due to injury in sophomore outfielder Sam Puzey (shoulder) and freshman outfielder Sydney Jones (hip).

In 2009, Wolf Pack radio debuted on the radio in Northern Nevada and the radio presence continued in 2010. A select number of games will again be broadcast this year on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM and Chad Hartley will have the call. The regular season broadcast schedule has yet to be finalized. All WAC Tournament and any additional postseason games will also be carried.
