Nevada Splits At San Diego Softball Tournament

SAN DIEGO - Nevada (4-8) made a late comeback but couldn't overcome a four-run deficit in losing 4-3 to St. John's and then held off San Diego 5-3 in the Saturday's second game here in the three-day tournament. Nevada concludes play Sunday with another game against St. John's.
In game one Saturday, Nevada scored three in the fifth after falling behind 3-0 in the first and then 4-0 after three innings. Kaycee Wilcks had a double and Jiliane Hartfiel had a home run and a triple with three RBI to lead Nevada. Brittany Lorenzen added two hits for the Pack's cause. Tiffany Hoeft took the loss and Jordan McPherson came on in relief and pitched three and-two-thirds scoreless innings.
In the nightcap, Nevada and San Diego were tied 1-1 in the second but Nevada used a three-run third and added one in the fifth and then held off a two-run sixth inning rally by the Toreros to win, 5-3.
Robyn Ford-Feitz got the win and McPherson came on in relief. Nevada managed only four hits but San Diego had four errors to aid the Pack. Lorenzen, Cindy Elkins and Candice Rainwater each had a hit and an RBI for Nevada.
