Darby Tosses Shutout Against No. 14 Hawai`i
Mallary Darby fanned seven and Megan Fincher went 2-for-2 as the Nevada softball team upset No. 14 Hawai`i 4-0 on Saturday at Hixson Park. The win gave Nevada (17-30, 7-8 WAC) a doubleheader split.

Offensive Explosion – Through five games, the Wolf Pack has … 55 hits … 12 doubles … One triple … Five homers … 84 total bases … Has driven in 33 runs … Scored 38 runs … Hit .364 in 151 at bats … Slugged .556.

Six in OneErin Jones returned to the field with a bang in game one, going 4-5 with five RBI against the Cougars. She is the first Nevada player to drive in five runs in a game since Danielle Patrick drove in six against New Mexico on March 13, 2011.

Back-to-Back Jacks – Back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, by Megan Fincher and Chelsea Venable, propelled the University of Nevada softball team to a 6-4 win over Utah and a split of its final two games at the Red Desert Classic … The homers flew over the left-field fence and came on 2-0 and 0-0 counts, respectively … Fincher’s was the third of the weekend for the senior from Galena High School in Reno … Venable’s was her first in 2013.

Three Breakout Weekend Performances

Karley Hopkins -  The junior from Sparks, Nev. opened the season with … Five consecutive multi-hit games … 14 hits in her first 20 trips to the plate  for a .700 batting average … Nine runs scored … A four-hit performance in Nevada’s second game of the season (L, 5-4 vs. Idaho State) … Three doubles and four runs batted in through five games … A .714 on-base percentage … An .850 slugging percentage … Two stolen bases in two tries.

Erin Jones – The junior from Sacramento, Calif. opened the season with … Nine hits in her first 17 at bats for a .529 average … Five doubles , 14 total bases and a .824 slugging percentage … A team-leading eight RBI … Three walks and an on-base percentage of .600.

Megan Fincher – The senior from Reno, Nev. Hit a game-winning home run against Utah and, through her first five games has … Three homers and five RBI … a .375 batting average … a 1.063 slugging percentage … Two doubles and 17 total bases.
