Softball Wins Again at Freeway Series

FULLERTON, Calif. The Nevada women’s softball team finished a successful run at the Freeway Series Tournament with an 8-0 six-inning victory over Santa Clara on Sunday at Anderson Family Park.

Senior co-captain Jordan McPherson tossed five innings of two-hit ball to get her first victory of the season. Senior Richelle Villescas pitched a scoreless sixth inning to complete the shutout.

Nevada came out of the season-opening tournament with a 3-2 record, with the lone losses coming to No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 10 UCLA.

“I am very happy with how we played this weekend,” Coach Michelle Gardner said. “We are off to a good start and now we just need to keep getting better.”

Nevada pounded 12 hits against the Broncos, scoring in every inning except the second and fifth. Tyler Schafer, Noelle Micka and Kym Silagyi each had two hits in the game while Danielle Patrick knocked in a pair of runs.

The Wolf Pack will return to action next weekend when it travels to Tempe, Ariz., for the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State.
