Pack Falls On Senior Day
RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada softball team fell 8-1 to the Utah State Aggies on senior day, at Hixson Park Saturday.
The loss dropped Nevada to 12-32 overall and 3-15 in the WAC. Utah State improved to 14-38 and 7-11.
In Saturday's contest, the Aggies got on the board first, scoring once in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Marquez.
Karley Hopkins hit her WAC-leading 16th double of the year in the bottom of the third inning, but was stranded at third when Britton Murdock flew out to end the inning.
Utah State pushed three runs across in the top of the fourth, extending the lead to 4. Nevada starter Mallary Darby stranded an Aggie base runner at third to prevent any further damage.
The Wolf Pack put two runners on in the bottom half of the inning, but could not score, making the score 4-0 Utah State after four complete.
In the top of the fifth, the Pack showed some defensive prowess, retiring a runner at the plate in a non-force out situation and turning a 4-6-3 ground-ball double play.
On her final day in the Silver and Blue at Hixson park, Murdock stole second and third in the bottom of the sixth, the 25th and 26th stolen bases of her career. Lauren Lastrapes drove her in to get Nevada on the board one batter later.
The Pack will take on Fresno State in its final regular-season series next weekend, playing a single game on Friday and two on Saturday.
