ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Nevada softball team slugged its way to another victory on Saturday, beating the New Mexico Lobos 6-4 in the middle game of a three-game Mountain West series.
With the win, the Wolf Pack improves to 27-19 (6-5 MW), while the Lobos fall to 19-28 (3-8 MW).
Nevada scored three times in the third and three times in the sixth, topping the Lobos for the second straight day and winning for the fourth game in a row. The Wolf Pack will look for its first MW sweep on Sunday, closing out the series with a noon game at Lobo Field.
On Saturday, Megan Fincher drove in two runs and Karlyn Jones won for the 15th time, as the Pack withstood a couple of late runs from UNM to get the win. In the bottom of the sixth, a two-run home run from the home team made the score 6-4 in favor of Nevada, but three more outs from the Pack and Jones in the seventh did the trick, allowing the Pack to win its second series in a row.
Nevada took two of three from Colorado State last weekend.
The Pack was consistent at the plate all day, collecting eight hits off New Mexico starter Lauren Soles. She took the loss to fall to 8-13. Jenkins doubled to make her the fifth Nevada player with at least 10 doubles so far this season. In total, the Pack has doubled 89 times through the first 46 games of the season.
