RENO, Nev. – The Nevada softball team saw its seven-game winning streak snapped on Sunday as it dropped a 1-0 decision to UC Davis in the final game of the Wolf Pack Classic at Hixson Park.

Nevada fell to 18-10 overall but finished the tournament at 4-1. The Wolf Pack will open conference play on Friday in Las Vegas against UNLV in a Governor’s Series matchup presented by NVEnergy.

Trailing by a run, Nevada had a chance late against UC Davis as the Pack got a one-out single from Amanda Weis in the seventh. Sara Parson then hit a ground ball to the left side and the second baseman was unable to handle the throw on at the attempt to force the lead runner, pinch-runner Caylin Campbell. That put two on with one out.

Nikki Orozko then flew out to left and saw her eight-game hitting streak end in the process. A wild pitch pushed the runners to second and third with Danielle Wiltz at the plate. Wiltz smack a drive to right-center that got held up in the win and the catch was made to end the game.

Megan Dortch tossed a two-hitter and yielded just the lone unearned run but took the loss and fell to 7-4 on the year.

Nevada threatened early as Erin Jones singled with one out and, a batter later, Jasmine Jenkins singled up the middle to put two on with two out. But Amanda Weis grounded out to end the inning.

That set in motion a string of 1-2-3 innings as Nevada’s bat went silent against Aggie starter Dana Cruse as she retired 15 in a row until Erin Jones had a two-out single in the sixth.

Davis broke through in the fifth to take a 1-0 lead and scored without the aid of a base hit.. Krista Bava reached on an error and after an out, a hit batter and a walk, UC Davis had the bases loaded with two out. Brianna Warner drew a walk on a full-count pitch from Dortch to push in the unearned run.
