RENO, Nev. – The Nevada softball team committed three errors and fell to UC Santa Barbara 6-2 in the first game of the Nevada Classic at Hixson Park on Friday.
The Wolf Pack (10-9) also walked two batters and hit three more and managed just a pair of runs despite three extra-base hits off UC Santa Barbara (12-5) pitcher Shelby Wisdom.
On Saturday, three games are on tap, with Nevada playing at 12:30 p.m. (vs. Seattle) and 3 p.m. (vs. UC Santa Barbara). Seattle and UC Santa Barbara will face off in the first game of the day at 10 a.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for seniors and children. All games are scheduled to be broadcast on the Mountain West Network at NevadaWolfPack.TV.
UCSB struck first on Friday, scoring three in the first inning on two hits, two walks and a Nevada error.
Megan Sweet led off the bottom of the first with a triple but was left stranded there.
After the Gauchos got another unearned run in the second, Nevada got on the board as Amanda Weis scored on Danielle Wiltz’s triple to make it 4-1.
But UCSB answered with two more in the fourth off Megan Dortch (4-3) to go up 6-1.
The Pack got one back in the fourth on another Wiltz RBI but Nevada couldn’t put anything else together as it dropped it’s third straight game.
