RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada soccer team fell to the visiting Fresno State Bulldogs 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Mackay Stadium.
With the loss, Nevada falls to 5-11 overall and 2-3 in the WAC while Fresno State improved to 5-10 overall and 3-2 in the WAC.
Nevada had a good look in the 12th minute when Ellie Stott played the ball wide right to Annabelle Allen. Allen's cross found Natalie Ratnavira who had beaten her defenders but her header went high.
Fresno State got on the board first in the 13th minute as Janna Sadowitz got played into the middle of the field by Molly Nizzoli. Sadowitz took the ball 25 yards up the middle of the field. Nevada keeper Marie Cove came off her line and partially deflected Sadowitz's shot but the ball rolled into the left corner of the goal to put the Bulldogs on the board.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute as Vanessa Gonzalez hit a free kick from 35 yards out. Her ball found Claudia Cardenas who beat the Pack's defense to extend the Fresno State lead.
Less than a minute later Stott collected a loose ball from 20 yards out in front of Fresno State's goal and beat Bulldog keeper Kaitlyn Revel to bring the score to 2-1. The Bulldogs added a third goal before half as Bradlee DeShane finished a cross on the back post in the 31st minute off assists from Kendall VanDine and Laura Dodd.
In the 58th minute Ratnavira got played in on the left and took the ball towards the center of the field and fired a shot that hit off the crossbar.
Nevada and Fresno State each ended the game with nine shots. The Bulldogs ended the match with eight shots on goal to the Pack's two. Ratnavira recorded a team-high three shots for Nevada.
Cove made five saves in goal for Nevada while Revel made one for Fresno State.
Nevada will play at Hawai'i on Friday at 2 p.m. PT.
