Soccer Falls to Northern Arizona
Sept. 19, 2005
Boise, Idaho - Nevada (2-3-1) lost 3-1 to Northern Arizona University Sunday in Boise, Idaho.
NAU took the lead just before halftime on a Nevada own goal. The Lumberjacks struck again in the 47th minute when Cee Cee Odorfer scored off a pass from Kayla Bauder to extend NAU's lead to 2-0. The Pack responded with a goal in the 55th minute when junior Aivi Luik (Gold Coast Australia) beat Lumberjack keeper Darin Kleinsmith to bring the score to 2-1. Sophomore Jessica Wilcox (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded the assist on the play. Odorfer recorded her second goal of the match in the 67th minute to secure a 3-1 win for NAU.
"We dominated from start to finish," said Nevada head coach Terri Patraw. "We played tremendous attacking soccer but the ball would not bounce our way today. We hit a cross-bar, a goal-line and got countered against the run of play. We are playing at a very high level right now. The results will come for us if we keep plugging away. I have never been more excited about our level of play."
Sophomore Blaine Dugan (Tempe, Ariz.) led the Pack with five shots. Nevada outshot NAU 17-6 in the match including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Nevada keeper Megan Tarpenning (Roseville, Calif.) recorded no saves in 53 minutes of play while her replacement, freshman Caitlin Holmes (Las Flores, Calif.), recorded one save in 37 minutes of play. Kleinsmith recorded six saves for NAU.
Nevada returns to Mackay Stadium Friday, Sept. 23 to face the New Mexico Lobos at 6 p.m. The Pack will stay at home to face Washington State on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
