Nevada Drops First Game of the Season Friday Night



RENO, Nev. Wyoming’s Emily Layton scored the game-winning goal with 18 seconds remaining in the first overtime to give the University of Nevada’s soccer team its first loss of the 2006 season.  With the loss Nevada falls to 4-1-1 while Wyoming improves to 2-4-1. 


Nevada’s Kenishia Warren (Terrigal, New South Wales, Australia) gave the Pack an early 1-0 lead when she scored a close-range goal in the fifth minute from Randee Robinson’s (Port Orchard, Wash.) assist. 


Wyoming tied the game in the 66th minute when Comfort Adetoye scored an unassisted goal.  Layton’s goal in the 105th minute gave the Cowgirls the 2-1 overtime victory.


“We got outworked tonight,” said Nevada head coach Terri Patraw.  “We need to mature and we need to bring maximum effort to every game.”


Nevada goalie Caitlin Holmes (Las Flores, Calif.) recorded eight saves for the Pack while Wyoming keeper Ashley Sheppard made four.  Wyoming outshot Nevada 16-10 in the game including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.


Nevada returns to Mackay Stadium this Sunday to face the UC Davis Aggies at 2 p.m.
