Mountain West release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West released its 2014 soccer preseason poll Wednesday morning with the Nevada soccer team predicted to finish ninth in the 12-team league, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Two-time defending regular-season and tournament champion San Diego State notched the top-spot in the poll by garnering five first-place votes and 115 total points. The league’s new affiliate member, Colorado College, also snagged five first-place votes, but totaled 112 points to capture a runner-up predicted finish.

Boise State, last year’s runner-up, received two first-place votes to secure the third position. Holding down, what would be, the final three postseason spots in this year’s conference tournament, are New Mexico in fourth, Utah State in fifth and Fresno State in sixth. UNLV and Wyoming were slotted seventh and eighth, respectively, before the Wolf Pack enter the poll in ninth with a total of 37 points. Colorado State and San Jose State each received 27 points to tie for 10th, while Air Force rounded out the predicted order of finish in 12th with 22 points.

Nevada compiled a 5-11-4 overall record in 2013, going 3-6-1 in MW action to finish eighth in the league standings. Fifth-year head coach Dr. Melissa Price returns eight starters from last year’s squad and adds nine newcomers.
