RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada women’s soccer team dropped its final contest of the season, 2-0 to San Jose State on Sunday at Mackay Stadium.
The game’s first goal came from Catherine Ruder in the 47th minute, after Nevada played the Spartans to a tightly-contested, scoreless first frame.
The Wolf Pack had chances to level the game after SJSU took the lead, including a ball into the box intended for Bobby Reilly, which the freshman was inches away from getting to on the goal line.
Jenna Riddle, who received the start in goal in her final match as a member of the Pack, also kept the Pack in the game with two spectacular saves. The second of them came when San Jose State’s Megan Molina broke into the box alone and attempted a shot low, to the right post. Diving and getting her fingertips on the ball, Riddle deflected it out of harm’s way.
San Jose State’s second goal came from Shanelle Furner in the 85th minute.
Four other players, Annabelle Allen, Ellie Stott, Joanne Terranova and Sarah Voss, also competed for the last time as members of the Pack. Allen started her 79th match, increasing her all-time lead in the category over Samantha Miller, who played at Nevada from 2005-08.
The 2011 senior class was honored in a ceremony prior to the match.
