RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada women’s soccer team fell 2-1 to UNLV in the final game of the Wolf Pack Invitational Sunday.
The loss dropped Nevada to 1-5, while UNLV moved to 2-3-1.
Danielle Green, Abieyuwa Ogiamien and Annabelle Allen were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Wolf Pack got out to an early lead Sunday on Ogiamien’s first career goal in the 12th minute. Ogiamien headed the ball into the back of the UNLV net off a cross from Allen.
That lead lasted six minutes, as UNLV tied the contest on Denali Murnan’s first goal of the season in the 18th minute. Murnan also scored via a header from inside the 18-yard box. The game winner found the back of the net early in the second half, as Jenn Wolfe scored in the 52nd minute for the Rebels.
Dana Moreno got her first start of the season in goal for the Pack, playing the full 90 minutes and making six saves. In total, UNLV outshot Nevada 14-8.
The Wolf Pack held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-3, and pressed UNLV late to earn two of them. Freshman Kellyn Morning had a good scoring chance late as well, as she forced UNLV goalkeeper Kylie Wassell to make a diving save with less than three minutes remaining.
The rivalry game was physical and tightly contested, as the teams combined for 15 fouls and one yellow card. The caution cam at 57:30 and was given to Nevada's Madison Lorenzen.
Nevada will take on the USF Dons in its next match, at Mackay Stadium, Sunday at 2 p.m.
