The University of Nevada soccer team picked up its first win of the 2013 season, defeating Eastern Washington 2-0 in a neutral site match at Hornet Field on the campus of Sacramento State Friday afternoon.
With the win, Nevada improves to (1-1 MW) on the season, while Eastern Washington drops to (0-3 Big Sky).
The first several minutes of the match began evenly, as both team’s shared possession of the ball. Nevada picked up its intensity, controlling the ball the latter portion of the first half. Freshman Mackenzie Henke came up with a loose ball in front of the Eastern Washington net and fired off a shot to give the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead just before halftime.
Daisha Jones-Oglesby fed Chrisalyn Fonte an assist with a cross from the left wing that led to Nevada’s second goal of the day in the 82nd minute. The Wolf Pack held on to win the match 2-0. Nevada had 24 shots to six from Eastern Washington.
Nevada will return home to face Wright State in the team’s Mackay Stadium opener Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
