Women's Golf Signs Two

Nov. 15, 2011

Second-year Nevada women’s golf coach has announced the signing of two prep standouts to National Letters of Intent.

The recruiting class is made up of Carly Simpson (Brea, Calif.; Diamond Bar High School) and Brittany Whatley (Las Vegas; Silverado High School).

“We are thrilled to have Carly and Brittany joining the program next fall,” Spencer said. “Both players have enjoyed success in junior golf and at the high school level and I believe they will be great additions as we continue to build our program.”

Simpson is a four-year scholar-athlete and letterwinner at Diamond Bar. She has been a CIF section finalist as an individual each of the past three years and helped her team to three undefeated seasons. Simpson, who is the niece of 1987 U.S. Open champion Scott Simpson, was the Johnson Junior Golf Tour 2010 Player of the Year and compete in this year’s Callaway Junior World Golf Championships.

Whatley is a two-time all-state first-team selection and a three-time MVP at Silverado High School. She was named a Future Collegians World Tour All-American earlier this year and has played in the Callaway Junior World event three times. She was the runner-up in the Nevada Junior Am earlier this year.
