Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season at Santa Clara Invitational
RENO, Nev. - The Wolf Pack women's golf team wraps up its 2010 fall season this week, traveling to the Santa Clara Invitational, being held Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 25-26 at the Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose, Calif.
The field for the seven-team event includes host Santa Clara, Boston College, British Columbia, Cal State Fullerton, Fresno State, Nevada and UC Riverside. Teams will play 18 holes each day with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Pacific Time.
Nevada's lineup for the Santa Clara Invitational includes freshman Joyce Chong (Velserbroek, Netherlands), junior Jamie Yam (San Diego, Calif.), senior Lauren Hernandez (Las Vegas, Nev.), sophomore Louise Yi (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and senior Ana Patricia de la Maza (San Luis Potosi, Mexico).
Under the direction of first-year head coach Chad Spencer, the Wolf Pack heads to the Santa Clara Invitational looking to turn in its fourth top 10 finish in as many tournaments. Most recently, the team finished eighth at the CU/Heather Farr Memorial Oct. 8-9 in Erie, Colo.
Chong is leading the Wolf Pack with a 76.11 stroke average and has paced the team with top 10 finishes in each of the last two tournaments, including a tie for fourth at the WSU Cougar Cup in September. Yam is second on the team with a 77.89 stroke average and has a pair of top 20 finishes this season, while Hernandez has turned in Nevada's only win of the season, capturing individual medalist honors at the Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational in September.
