LAS CRUCES, N.M. The Wolf Pack women’s golf team is tied for ninth after the first round Monday at the Price’s Give Em Five Fund Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. New Mexico State University is playing host to the tournament on Oct. 16-18 at the par 72, 6,319-yard NMSU Golf Course.
Nevada carded a 23-over 311 in Monday’s first round and is tied for ninth with Baylor and Colorado State. San Jose State is leading the 17-team Price’s Give Em Five Fund Invitational after shooting an eight-over 296 on Monday. The Spartans hold a three-stroke lead over Boise State (299). Hawai’i is in third at 13-over 301 followed by Missouri (302) and tournament New Mexico State (304).
For Nevada, sophomore Melanie De Leon, junior Jennie Pleas and senior Kelly Burke are all tied for 26th after carding five-over 77s in Monday’s first round. Senior Nicole de Gennaro is tied for 60th at eight-over 80, while freshman Pamela Abreu stands in a tie for 68th at nine-over 81.
Four players share the individual lead in the tournament after Monday’s first round. New Mexico State’s Lehua Wise, San Jose State’s Jenelle Gomez and Cristina Corpus and Missouri’s Ellen Hoeper are all tied for first after carding even-par 72s on Monday.
The Price’s Give Em Five Fund Invitational continues on Tuesday and Wednesday. Teams will play 18 holes each day with action getting underway at 8:30 a.m. Mountain Time on Tuesday and 8 a.m. MT in Wednesday’s final round.
