Women's Golf Team Posts Best Finish Of Season In Fresno

MADERA, Calif. - The Wolf Pack women's golf team recorded its best finish of the season, fourth place, Tuesday at the Fresno State Invitational at the Riverbend Golf Course in Madera, Calif.

Nevada finished fourth out of 13 teams with a 54-hole score of 951 (+87). The Wolf Pack's previous top finish was a fifth-place at the 36-hole Heather Farr Memorial during the fall season. Fresno State, the host institution, took home the team title with a two-day score of 918 (+54).

Long Beach State's Kay Hoey was the low medalist at even-par 216. Three Nevada golfers, Nicole deGennaro, Heather Olmstead and Erin LaPlaunt, finished in the top 20 for first-year head coach Jody Dansie.

Sophomore Nicole deGennaro (Tucson, Ariz.) recorded her first-ever top 10 finish for the Silver and Blue with a tie for seventh-place. deGennaro, who shot a final round 79 (+7), (78-76-79) carded a 17-over par 233 and finished tied with UC Riverside's Lindsay Snowden. Freshman Heather Olmstead (Puyallup, Wash.) finished tied for 10th, two strokes behind deGennaro at 19-over 235. It was Olmstead's (80-77-78) first top 10 finish and the best of her career.

Senior Erin LaPlaunt (Elk Grove, Calif.) was the third Wolf Pack golfer to finish in the top 20. LaPlaunt (75-83-78) tied for 13th place at 20-over par 236. Freshman Kelly Burke (Golden, Colo.) tied for 41st at 251 (+35) and senior Chandeni Gill (Reno, Nev.) tied for 44th at 252 (+36) to round out the scoring for Nevada.

 
 

The Wolf Pack will now get ready for the Western Athletic Conference Championship tournament, which will take place April 18-20 at the Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna, Idaho.
