Women's Golf Heads to UC Irvine's Anteater Invitational Next Week
RENO, Nev. The University of Nevada women's golf team will end its regular season next week, heading to the Anteater Invitational in Irvine, Calif. UC Irvine will play host to the 14-team tournament Monday-Wednesday, March 30-April 1 at the par 71, 5,924 Dove Canyon Country Club in Irvine, Calif.
ABOUT THE ANTEATER INVITATIONAL: Teams will play 18 holes with a shotgun start each day. Monday’s action will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, Tuesday at 9 a.m. and Wednesday’s final round at 8 a.m.
The 14 teams competing in the Anteater Invitational include Cal Poly, UC Davis, tournament host UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Cal State Northridge, Cal State San Marcos, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Long Beach State, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sacramento State and San Francisco.

NEVADA'S LINEUP: Nevada’s lineup for the Anteater Invitational will include senior Melanie De Leon (Saugus, Calif.), junior Pamela Abreu (Guatemala City, Guatemala), sophomore Lauren Hernandez (Las Vegas, Nev.) and true freshmen Jamie Yam (San Diego, Calif.) and Alex Borcherts (Las Vegas, Nev.).
LAST TIME OUT: Led by senior Melanie De Leon, Nevada finished fourth at the Donnis Thompson Invitational, held March 16-18 at the par 72, 5,920-yard Kanoehe Klipper Golf Course in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Wolf Pack ended the tournament with a 22-over 310 in the final round and turned in the team's second top five finish of the year with a three-day total of 55-over 919 (303-306-310).
De Leon led the Wolf Pack with a tie for ninth place, her fourth top 10 showing of the season. She carded a four-over 76 in the final round to finish at 12-over 228 (71-81-76) in the tournament. Junior Pamela Abreu (76-78-76) and sophomore Lauren Hernandez (76-73-81) both finished in a tie for 14th at 14-over 230. True freshman Jamie Yam (80-78-78=236) and Alex Borcherts (82-77-80=239) tied for 30th and 34th, respectively, to round out the Wolf Pack lineup.
UP NEXT: Following the Anteater Invitational, the Wolf Pack will play host to the 2009 Western Athletic Conference Championship April 20-22 at Wolf Run Golf Course in Reno. The winner of the WAC Championship will receive an automatic berth to one of three NCAA Regional sites.
