Two players in the top 20 after day one in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. – The Nevada women’s golf team has two players in the top 20, and is sixth heading into the final round of the Fresno State Classic.

Sophomores Caryn Khoo and Carly Simpson are both tied for 18th with a 10-over 154. Khoo shot back-to-back rounds of 77. Simpson had a rough start shooting an 81 in the first round, but turned it around with a one-over 73 in the second round.

Senior Joyce Chong finished two strokes back with a 12-over 156 and tied for 21st. Juniors Bethany Wurster and Nikki Prichard finished tied for 25th and 28th.

The Wolf Pack started slowly with a 314 in the first round, but improved in the second round shooting a 305. Nevada is seven shots behind Sac State at a 43-over 619.

Three Nevada golfers were also competing individually. Freshman Jordan Keyser is tied for 32nd, sophomore Brittney Whatley is 42nd, and junior Tess Jones is 43rd heading into the final round at Copper River Country Club.
