LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Nevada women’s golf team had a strong opening round and is just three strokes off the pace following the first round of the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational hosted by New Mexico State.

Bethany Wurster and Nikki Prichard each opened with even-par 72s while freshman Jordan Keyser shot 74 and Caryn Khoo opened with a 75. That gave Nevada a team score of 293 in the first round, good enough for a tie for third with Cal State Fullerton. UC Irvine leads the way at 290 and Portland State is second at 291. Pack senior Joyce Chong shot 80 in the first round of the play-five, count-four scores event.

Individually, Wurster and Prichard are tied for eighth with Keyser tied for 16th.

The second round is Tuesday before the final 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament on Wednesday at the NM State Golf Course.
