MARICOPA, Ariz. – Sophomore Carly Simpson is tied for third heading into the final round of the Cowgirl Classic, hosted by Wyoming.
Simpson shot an even-par 72 in the first round, and a two-over 74 in the second round to finish tied for third with a two-over 146. Simpson sits two shots behind second place and five shots out of first. Her 72 in the first round ties her lowest round of the season.
Junior Bethany Wurster is tied for 13th after shooting back-to-back rounds of 75, and sits at a six-over 150. She is one stroke away from breaking the top-10.
Sophomore Caryn Khoo had a slow start shooting an 81 in the first round, but came out strong in the second round shooting a two-over 74. Khoo is tied for 41st with an 11-over 155. Senior Joyce Chong is tied for 62nd and junior Nikki Prichard is tied for 76th.
Nevada as a team is in 7th place with a 31-over 607. Nevada is just one stroke behind Sac State and eight shots behind third.
"We played really well this afternoon," said head coach Kathleen Takaishi. "Carly had a strong day today, and Bethany was consistent with rounds of 75. Tomorrow we are going to continue with our game plan, to focus on the process and what we have control over.”
The final 18-hole round will start on Tuesday at the AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
