Simpson leads Nevada on final day in Maui

KAPALUA, Hawaii. – Carly Simpson matched her best round of the season with an even-par 72 and the Nevada women’s golf team closed out the Anuenue Spring Classic with its best round of the week on Wednesday.

The Wolf Pack shot a 302 and moved up one spot to 14th for the tournament, which was played at Kapalua Bay Golf Course on Maui.

Simpson’s 72, which matched an even-par 72 at a tournament in Las Vegas in the fall, pushed her up to a tie for 29th with a 229 for the 54-hole tournament. Caryn Khoo tieed for 48th and Nikki Prichard closed strong with a 73 to move up to a tie for 55th. Joyce Chong tied for 75th and teammate Jordan Keyser was a shot back.

Pepperdine’s Grace Na ran away with medalist honors at 11 under and the Pepperdine took the team title by nine strokes.

Nevada will be off from competition next week and will gear up for play April 6-7 at the Cowgirl Classic hosted by Wyoming in Phoenix.
