Robinson wins Second WAC Weekly Honors
After not having won a single Verizon Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week award last season, the University of Nevada women's basketball team was honored for the third time this year this week. Guard Tahnee Robinson was named the WAC Player of the Week for the week of December 13-19, the second honor of her career.
The senior captain is currently the leading scorer on the Wolf Pack squad that is off to its best start in school history at 7-2. The Pack has only once ever opened the season at 6-1. In addition, Nevada has started the season 7-0 at home, and has only twice in its history opened as good as 5-0 at home.
Robinson, a senior from Fort Washakie, Wyo. (Sheridan College), scored 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Nevada's 85-57 win over Portland State on Thursday night. Robinson was 11-of-18 from the field (.611), including 5-of-9 (.556) from three-point range. She made all three of her free throw attempts, dished out four assists and made two steals in 32 minutes.
She won her first-ever career WAC Player of the Week award after the first game this season. That week she set a new career high in scoring 33 points against Cal Poly Pomona. Robinson will look to lead the Pack to victory later today when it plays Illinois State at 1 p.m. CT in the Caribbean Classic hosted at the Aventura Spa Palace just outside of Cancun, Mexico.
