RENO, Nev. -
The University of Nevada women's basketball team released its 2012-13 schedule today, fifth-year head coach Jane Albright announced Monday.
Nevada’s schedule will feature six postseason teams from a year ago including one that played in the NCAA Tournament. The Pack’s schedule also features 15 home games, including the annual John Ascuaga’s Nugget Classic.
“I am very excited about this year’s schedule and the challenge of competing against our new Mountain West opponents,” Albright said. “The schedule is a perfect blend of what we need to get ready for a strong conference.”
After an exhibition game at home against San Francisco State on Nov. 4, Nevada will open the 2012-13 regular season with a home game against Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 9. The Pack’s first road trip will begin at the University of Pacific on Nov. 15, followed by a game against UC Irvine on Nov. 17.
The Pack will return home to host its annual John Ascuaga’s Nugget Classic on Nov. 23-24. Joining Nevada will be Santa Clara, Toledo and Cleveland State. The championship and consolation games will be played on Nov. 24.
Nevada will remain home to play Cal Poly on Dec. 2, before hitting the road to face Portland on Dec. 7 and Pac-12 foe Oregon on Dec. 9. After facing Cal State Los Angeles on Dec. 12, the Wolf Pack will head to Cancun, Mexico to participate in the Caribbean Challenge that will be held Dec. 21-22. Nevada will be joined by South Florida, Creighton and Miami (Ohio). Matchups have not yet been announced.
The non-conference slate will conclude with a road game at Wake Forest on Dec. 31, followed by a home game against Cal State Bakersfield on Jan. 5.
Nevada will open up its inaugural season in the Mountain West Jan. 9 at home against Air Force. The Pack will battle Fresno State, which made the NCAA Tournament after winning the Western Athletic Conference title last season, at home on Jan. 19. UNLV and Nevada will square off for the season’s first showdown at home on Jan. 30. The regular season will conclude on March 9 with a home game against Colorado State.
The Mountain West Basketball Tournament will be held March 12-16 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.
