Young Joins Women's Basketball Staff
Former Nevada player Amber Young has rejoined the Wolf Pack women’s basketball program as the director of operations, head coach Kim Gervasoni announced Wednesday.
Young, an Arizona native who played for the Wolf Pack from 2001-02 to 2004-05, spent last season as an assistant coach at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College.
“I am thrilled to have one of our own returning to the University of Nevada and joining our basketball staff,” Gervasoni said. “Amber was one of the most disciplined, hard working student-athletes I have coached. Those qualities, along with her education and experience, made it an easy decision to hire her for our position.”
Young’s primary responsibilities will be handling travel, film exchange and facilities for the women’s basketball program. She earned a business degree from Nevada and will be going to graduate school in addition to her basketball program duties.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me because I was playing here when Coach Gervasoni came to Nevada so I feel like I was part of the foundation of the winning program that she has built here,” Young said. “To have a chance to come back to my alma mater and work with this program and work towards a coaching career is truly a blessing for me.”
Young started 72 games during her four-year playing career at Nevada. She scored 526 points during her career and averaged 5.1 rebounds per game.
