RENO, Nev. – Senior Arielle Wideman of the Nevada women’s basketball team, has been selected to represent the United States in a pair of upcoming international basketball tournaments to be played overseas in China, NetScouts Basketball announced. Wideman will play as a member of the USA Women’s All-Star team.
“I’m honored to represent the United States at this tournament,” Wideman said. “I’ve always wanted to play at the next level so I’m excited for this opportunity to play the game I love in a different culture.”
The team is organized and coached by NetScouts Basketball and features 10 student-athletes from around the country. A total of nine games will be played in three cities during the round-robin style tournaments. Up first, the team will play three games in Shenzhen, Guangdong against the national teams of New Zealand, Denmark and China. The team then heads to Nan’an, Fujian Province and Jiangxi Province to play six games against Australia, Slovenia and China.
Wideman capped off her four-year collegiate career at Nevada by garnering All-Mountain West honorable mention accolades. She finished the season by averaging 10.6 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game. Her 136 assists on the year ranked fifth in the conference. She finishes her career tied for third all-time in program history with 383 career assists.
“I am excited for this great opportunity for Ari to travel internationally and compete at the next level,” Nevada head coach Jane Albright said. “She had a fantastic senior year and her improvement was evident in all phases of her game. It is great to see her hard work pay off. We look forward to following the progress of her team.”
NetScouts Basketball organizes and coaches all-star men’s and women’s teams which represent the USA in international basketball competition. This enables highly successful players who have recently completed their eligibility to represent their country, get experience playing international basketball and provide an amazing cultural experience.
Wideman and her team depart for China next Thursday, April 17, with the first game to be played a few days later on April 20. She will return home to the United States Friday, May 2.
