Women's Hoops Downs Hawai`i , 76-56
RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's basketball team beat Hawai'i, 76-56, Monday night in front of 1,000 fans at Lawlor Events Center.
With the win Nevada improved to 15-11 overall (9-3 WAC) while Hawai'i fell to 9-16 overall (3-9 WAC).
Tahnee Robinson and Shavon Moore each recorded 14 points in the win for Nevada while Johnna Ward added 12, including her 700th career point with free throws early in the first half.
Nevada was up early, going ahead 15-4 with 14:44 left in the first half. Hawai'i cut the lead to seven, 19-12, with 12:36 to play in the half. The Pack stretched its lead back to double-digits going up by 11, 25-14, on a layup from Marianne Lombardi and Nevada took a 41-31 lead into halftime.
In the second half the Pack stretched its lead to 20 points, 55-35, on a pair of free throws from Moore with 14:29 to play. From that point Nevada used a 10-5 run to go up by 25 after two free throws from Brittany Woodard.
A three pointer by Robinson gave Nevada a 27-point lead, 74-47, with 5:27 to play and Nevada went on to post the 76-56 win.
"I thought our starters did a good job of getting us out of the gate, especially in the second half," head coach Jane Albright said. "We were really good from the free throw line and played good team basketball."
Lombardi (10) and Kayla Williams (11) each finished with double digits in rebounding for Nevada as the Pack outrebounded the Rainbow Wahine 51-27 in the game. Amanda Johnson recorded a six assists for the Pack while Robinson added a career-high five.
Nevada shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the floor while Hawai'i shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55).
The Pack will play at Fresno State on Saturday at 5 p.m.
